GINGERBREAD MAN COOKIES!

Kiddos are ~4 and 6 years old. I leave the office early one day and decide to stop by famous and kiddos’ favorite Amphora Bakery. I get two gingerbread man cookies that honestly look delicious!! I don’t have a picture, unfortunately, but they looked kind of like this:

I get home pretty excited and give the kiddos their cookies. They are super happy jumping up and down!
They run to the kitchen, grab some plates and sit on the kitchen table. So far so good!!!

Little guy gets at it right away, no second thoughts! Big brother is hesitant. He finds the gingerbread man too cute to eat!! He decides to go for the M&Ms first, so in the blink of an eye….

And it kept going…

At this point big brother realizes that all the M&Ms are gone, so he grabs the cookie trying to decide what to do next. While he’s deep in thought, contemplating whether he will have the strength to actually eat it, he accidentally drops it!!!

…. wahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

He’s inconsolable. Rivers of tears coming down his cheeks, and between sobs you can hear:

“his head came off!”

Little brother is analyzing the situation, and then suddenly he puts his cookie down (well, what is left of it):

…. wahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

He’s now inconsolable too, and like his brother he has rivers of tears coming down his cheeks. Between sobs you can hear:

“I did NOT want to eat it!!!

Here is when you as a parent start biting your tongue as hard as you can tolerate, so that you don’t burst into laughter!!!

Don’t remember the details on how we got them to stop crying, but I do remember that I grabbed a couple of ziploc bags, put the remains of the gingerbread men inside the bags, and threw the bags inside the pantry closet. I didn’t want to throw them away; in case they asked later. (Can you imagine telling them: “oh, I threw them away!”)

Some years later (no exaggerating), I found a tin can with unknown contents, while organizing the pantry. Guess what I found when I opened it!
